In a thorough search optimization process, it is not only important to realize that there is more than one search engine to consider, but how to best integrate it with your company’s internet search marketing strategy. Yahoo is the second most popular search engine on the web, and therefore has a large number of visitors. For this reason, it would be a mistake not to take advantage of Yahoo’s search marketing program. Yahoo Search Marketing not only drives highly targeted traffic and sales to your site, but allows you to:

  • test ad copy online before running offline campaigns (like magazine ads, news publications or television)
  • target geographically at a global, national or local level (state, cities, or customized region) and locally reach prospects on the leading destination for people seeking local information (Yahoo Local)
  • reach buyers through Yahoo Shopping
  • target online publications to run your ads under articles relevant to the content on your site
To give a brief history, before Yahoo Search Marketing or Overture Internet Marketing existed, a company called GoTo.com created the PPC model which not only changed internet marketing, but the marketing industry as a whole. Before GoTo.com no one thought an auction model of advertising would work. They were obviously wrong, because not only does it work, it’s one of the most effective search marketing mediums today and is now a multi-billion dollar industry. Eventually GoTo.com became Overture Internet Marketing which was purchased by Yahoo Search Marketing in 2003.  Since their purchase, Yahoo Search Marketing has improved the entire interface. Those changes were pushed live in the winter of 2006.
